SkyDeck Program

Berkeley SkyDeck Coworking

The SkyDeck Program has two tracks running at Berkeley SkyDeck, Acceleration track (Full-Cohort) and Incubator track (hot desk). Amongst the 100 Sky teams who will become a part of the SkyDeck Program, 20 will receive $100,000 as an investment fund. For obtaining this funding, the (Cohort track) teams need to first acquire their first round of funding from the Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist. After getting selected, the teams will be provided with a dedicated workplace at SkyDeck coworking space in UC Berkeley. The Sky teams (Cohort track) will be acquainted with the advisors and partners of SkyDeck. All the Sky teams (Cohort track) are allowed to attend the BAM (Berkeley Acceleration Method) program held at SkyDeck.

Since SkyDeck is associated with the top-notch Silicon Valley companies, the Sky teams (Cohort track) will have an amazing opportunity to learn about product strategy and team building. A lot of startups tend to fail in their first three years of inception due to lack of efficient support. But with Berkeley SkyDeck, startups can grab the opportunity to be a part of the SkyDeck program, where chances to fail are next to zero.

SkyDeck will work along with Cohort teams in:

Product Strategy: SkyDeck will help in defining or refining the design of the product. The advisors of Skydeck will come forward with the capital-efficient growth strategy for the startups

Team Building: SkyDeck will identify and recommend the key candidates for advisory boards

Customer Introductions: SkyDeck can use the UC Berkeley alumni network for making introductions to influencers and buyers in Silicon Valley.

The hot desk teams are not a part of the Cohorts program. The hot desk teams are not ready to expand, but they are in the process as of yet. Hot desk startups are generally considered to be in an early stage of the startup lifecycle. The hot desk startup might be either very early for institutional funding, or might have already got institutional funding.

These startups have been given access to SkyDeck’s incredible advisors along with the in-kind resources offered by SkyDeck’s resource partners. Amongst these hot desks teams, one who has raised a significant amount of funding will get an opportunity to present their ideas at the Demo Day. The hot desk teams are allowed to work in the open areas as well as be a part of other programs on a self-serving basis.

Global Innovation Program

The Global Innovation program of Skydeck provides the opportunity for several startups to be accelerated for three months. Startups applying for the GIP program can be from diverse industries interested in international expansion beyond their home country.

SkyDeck provides access to workshops, networking teams and advising office hours with experienced mentors. The best part of this program is that the startups can be a part of the showcase event with 100+ attendees, among which include investors, advisors and mentors.

Campus Partners: Berkeley Science Fellow and HAAS Startup Squad are two different associations which are a part of the Berkeley SkyDeck’s Campus Partner Initiative.

Global Strategic Partners: This program aims to connect the best talent in the world with the Sky teams at SkyDeck. There are many startup accelerators, universities and corporations who will have a partnership with SkyDeck through this program.

Funding

Cohort Team: All the teams which are selected by the SkyDeck Berkeley will be given an investment funding of $100,000. The investment provided to these teams will be made from the Berkeley SkyDeck Fund. For accepting this investment funding, the startups will have to assure a 5% equity to Berkeley SkyDeck.

Cohort and Hot Desk program: The investment fund given to the startups under this program will be $50,000 as an initial fund. After this, the startups will also receive 10% of the money raised by them in the qualifying round.

Coworking Space in Berkeley SkyDeck

SkyDeck offers first-class co-working space and mentorship to world-changing startups. SkyDeck has a large network of accredited investors through which SkyDeck’s entrepreneurs are able to get the capital and expertise to scale faster. If you are not ready for the SkyDeck’s six month BAM program, then you can directly apply for a hot desk. By hiring a hot desk, you will not be assigned any particular co-working space but you will get access to work in open areas and a chance to attend all the workshops and events at SkyDeck.

Some noteworthy features of SkyDeck coworking space are their team of 70+ Advisors and 15+ Partners who contribute in legal, financial and technical resources. If you are a member of Berkeley Acceleration method (BAM) workshops then you can be a part of weekly collaborative problem-solving sessions and weekly networking events.

Location

There are two locations of SkyDeck, one in Berkeley and  the other in San Francisco. The Skydeck location in Berkeley is 2150 Shattuck Avenue. The location of Berkeley SkyDeck is called as the SkyDeck Building Penthouse floor. The ‘Penthouse floor’ means that when you are working on the topmost floor of the building, you will be almost touching the sky. This is the highest building in the Downtown district in Berkeley. In the same building, SkyDeck has one more coworking space which is dedicated to the SkyDeck program on the third floor.
