What is an Ontario G2 Licence?
In Ontario, there are three levels in licencing process.
Beginning from the basic G1 licence, you need to qualify for the further levels, G2 and G.
These belong to a category called Graduated licence which is practiced for new drivers in Ontario and throughout Canada.
This has been really helpful in bringing up new drivers with a safety consciousness.
The graduated licence system has three levels, namely, G1, G2 and G which falls respectively into learners, probationary licence, and full driver’s licence.
The stage-by-stage building up of experience and practice, leads to good drivers.
The G2 level comes as a second stage to the whole licencing process.
This is also the level you accomplish after being through G1. Usually, you have to wait for at least a year after getting your G1 in order to be a part of the G2 test.
However, by qualifying for a government approved driver’s education course, you can speed up this process.
If you have taken this government course, you need to wait only for 8 months, before you get your G2 licence.
Apart from the different levels of licencing process, the letter G belongs to a category of vehicles which are only allowed to be driven by you.
According to Driver’s Licence Classification Chart, you are “allowed to drive any car, van or small truck or combination of vehicle and towed vehicle up to 11,000 kilograms, provided the vehicle towed is not over 4,600 kilograms.
A pickup truck towing a house trailer exceeds 4,600 kilograms, but the total combined weight of the truck and trailer does not exceed 11,000 kilograms is deemed a Class G vehicle.”
