Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. was born on December 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York.
When Denzel was 14 years old, his parents, a beauty salon owner Rennis and Denzel Washington Senior, a minister/city official, got divorced.
After that, Denzel’s mother sent him to the Auckland Military Academy in New Windsor, New York.

Denzel attended Fordham University in New York, and he used to play basketball.
At University, he took the semester to think about his future and what his major should be.
