How to Upload Resume to Linkedin is something many people are confused about.
First, you should decide whether you should upload your resume to LinkedIn or not.
In this post, I will tell the pros and cons of uploading your resume to LinkedIn and how to do it.
When I first started my career, there was no LinkedIn around.
In fact, I tried not to create my profile on social media for many years because I felt it was an invasion of privacy and I was never motivated to do it.
However, as part of my job, I had to create a LinkedIn profile and after that I started to see the actual value of LinkedIn.
You can say that LinkedIn is like an online resume. It is a way for people interested in your professional life to see what you have done and even take note of your accomplishments to offer you a career opportunity.
You can include your personal accomplishments, recommendations, and even certifications you have done in the past.
This is my LinkedIn profile.
As someone who makes a full time income online, I also write different posts on this website on how to make money online.

Should I Upload My Resume to LinkedIn?
Before adding a resume to LinkedIn, you should think about the purpose of doing the same and what you are trying to achieve by uploading your resume.
Why?
Because LinkedIn is an open platform and there are plenty of people who scrape user information available on LinkedIn to try to sell you something.
There are automated bots that are capable of visiting your profile based on location, experience, seniority and there is a possibility that your resume will get added to thier database which is mainly used for marketing.
In most cases, your resume will have your verified contact number, address and even other personal data which can be used for purposes other than employment.
If you do not mind sharing this data and if you think it is still worth the risk, then its fine.
As a digital marketer, I know that no data is 100% secure. The moment you create a profile on a website like Monster, they sell your data.
The moment you take a new SIM card, that data is given to telecallers.
So if a good career opportunity is your highest priority, I think you can upload your resume on LinkedIn without worrying- just try to minimize personal data on your resume.
Now that you have decided to upload your resume to LinkedIn, I will show you how to do it. You can either upload your resume through job application section or even display on yoru profile.

Reasons Not to Upload a Resume to LinkedIn
There is no doubt that LinkedIn is a useful platform for working professionals and for most jobs, companies look at candidates LinkedIn profile before making a choice.
I think every working professional should have a LinkedIn profile but uploading a resume to LinkedIn is something you have to decide.
I will also give you few reasons why you should not be uploading a resume to LinkedIn- just for context.
Lack of Customizing for Different Jobs
Every job is different and when I apply for different jobs, I tweak my resume accordingly to ensure that recruiter feels I am the right fit for the job.
Because you cannot control which recruiter will be viewing your profile and resume, you might miss out on fantastic opportunities with your dream company if the recruiter downloads an outdated or “non-customized” resume.
Standard Resumes on LinkedIn May Stop Candidature
Many companies use LinkedIn profiles as the first step of screening candidates.
If your LinkedIn profile is impressive and the resume is a standard one that does not signify any of your achievements in the current job, you can lose the opportunity.
In both the above cases, you can solve it by uploading your latest resume on LinkdIn.
Current Employers Viewing Your Resume
If you are already working, your current employer can view your resume.
While it might not be considered as a big offense, your HR can notice that you have currently mentioned your employment and that you are currently looking out for opportunities.
Unlike job search portals where there is an option to block some companies from viewing your profile, LinkedIn does not given an option to block your employers from visiting your profile and have a look at your resume.
Another disadvantage is that your manager and hiring manager can view your current roles and responsibilties and if you have mentioned any other roles/ responsibilities can question you.
Privacy
While LinkedIn allow you to control private information through settings, an uploaded resume does not.
To protect your privacy on resume uploaded on LinkedIn, I urge you to remove personal contact information from the resume and mention contacts and personal information will be provided on request.
If someone is serious about hiring you, then they will contact you via your LinkedIn profile and ask for more details.
Along with privacy issues, there is also a potential of identity theft. Identity theft is when some unscruplous individuals can actually steal your identity and start working in your name.
Low Reward Potential
Lastly, the potential reward for uploading your resume to Linkedin is somewhat low.
If you have a well-written and optimized LinkedIn profile, hiring managers will take notice and it is not essential that you need to have a resume uploaded.
