As a starter, $250,000 was raised by the Zimride through the FB Fund and grew its members by six.
It was then selected by the FB Fund among 1000 applicants.
Zimride first started with Stanford and Dartmouth universities.
The first rideshare program was launched at Cornell University and 20% of students joined with them within six months of the program.
Interestingly, Zimride used guerrilla marketing as their marketing strategy.
Marketing folks at Zimride dressed as frogs to distribute flyers to the students.
In 2012, the company grew to 29 employees and 26,000 carpools.
Zimride is now used with 125 universities including the University of Michigan, Cornell, Harvard, USC, UCLA, UCSF, etc. and it is estimated that Zimride gets $10,000 per year from these universities.
