How Many Weeks in a Year – Simple Calculation
The calculation to arrive at this how many weeks in a year = 52 is pretty simple.
One calendar year (except leap year) has 365 days.
There are 7 days in a week.
So 365 days/7 days = 52.143 weeks in a year.
This .143 weeks can be rounded to another day in the calendar year, still in a year, you will have 52 weeks.
How Many Weeks in 2022
2022 is not a leap year, so this year we will have 52 weeks and 1 day.
This can be rounded to 52 weeks in 2022.
How many weeks in a leap year
A leap year occurs once every 4 years. A leap year will also have 366 days instead of the regular 365 days.
This is because the month of February in a leap year will have 29 days.
So to calculate how many weeks in a leap year, lets look at the math.
One Leap Year = 366 Days
No of days in a week = 7 days
No of weeks in a leap year = 366/7 = 52.286
This 0.286 weeks can be rounded off to 2 days.
The last time, we had a leap year it was in 2018 and upcoming leap year is in 2022.
How Many Weeks in a Year As Per ISO
If you want to get really technical about how many weeks in a year, then you will also have to take into consideration something called as ISO 8601.
ISO 8601 is an international standard covering the exchange of date- and time-related data.
ISO 8601 is maintained by the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and was first published in 1988 with updates in 1991, 2000, 2004 and 2019.
The ISO 8601 takes into account the start of the week, so number of weeks in a year according to ISO 8601 will be 53 because the extra one day or two days (in leap year) will be added as to the week starting.
How Many Working Weeks in a Year
If you are a salaried professional, then knowing how many working weeks in a year might be useful to calculate how much money you will make for the calendar year.
In this United States, there are 48 working weeks in a year.
According to U.S calendar, there are 10 Federal Holidays, so most employees will get around 10 days off.
This means that there is around 2 non-working weeks in a year.
So, 52 weeks minus 2 off weeks.
This is in addition to paid vacations so we are not taking into consideration that.
